Items Required for an Adult Renewal

1.  Completed Passport Application

Simple Renewal:  To qualify for simple renewal, you must be 16 years old, be in possession of your most recently issued passport, which must have been issued within the last 15 years.  To renew, please complete the DS-82 form online using the form filler, then print it to bring to your appointment.

If you are not in possession of your most recent passport, or if your most recent passport was issued more than 15 years ago, please complete Form DS-11 online using the form filler and print it to bring to your appointment.  Do not sign the application.  The application must be signed in front of the Consular Officer at the time of your appointment.

Forms may also be downloaded from the Department of State’s website.

2. Photograph

You must submit one photograph taken within the last six months on a white background and that measures 5cm by 5cm. Please note that most mall photo booths can take these necessary pictures here in Iceland.  If your photo does not meet the requirements, your application will be delayed until you are able to provide a correct photo. Please note that photo booths in Iceland have a ”passport photo” option that´s too small for US Passports. Please follow the instructions above. Click here for more information on photo requirements.

3. Fee

The fee for simple renewal of an adult U.S. passport is $130. Payment for adult renewals can be made by credit card or cash (ISK or dollars).

The fee to renew your passport if you cannot present your most recently issued passport, if you are applying for a first-time adult passport or if you are renewing a passport that was issued more than 15 years ago, is $165.  Payment may made by credit card or cash (ISK or dollars). We do not accept payment by smartphone or smartwatches.

4. Your previous Passport

For simple renewal, you must submit your previous passport with your application.  We will return it to you along with your new passport.

If you are no longer in possession of your previous passport, you must also complete the Form DS-64 and submit this form together with your Form DS-11 passport application.

Once you have all of the documents listed above to apply for your passport, you are ready to make an appointment. Please have all of your forms completed and printed when you come to the Embassy. To book an appointment, click here
