Deputy Chief of Mission Maureen Haggard

Maureen Haggard joined the U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik as Deputy Chief of Mission in September 2019.  She came to Reykjavik from the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway, where she was the Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs.  Previously, served at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, as Deputy Political Adviser at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, and as Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State with responsibility for Asia and nonproliferation issues.  Since joining the U.S. diplomatic service in 2002, Maureen has also had assignments as the human rights officer at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, an advisor in the Office of Korean Affairs in Washington, D.C., and as a consular officer in Warsaw.  She speaks Mandarin Chinese and Norwegian and has studied French and Polish.  She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and holds an M.A. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).  Maureen is from Seattle, Washington – a sister city of Reykjavik!
