Ambassador Jeffrey Ross Gunter highlighted U.S. leadership in Arctic science, including the important role of the National Science Foundation, in remarks to the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik on Oct. 10, 2019.
“The NSF is a champion of Arctic science and a key part of the role the United States plays in advancing a sustainable – and I underline ‘sustainable’ – Arctic,” Ambassador Gunter said. “The high-quality, transparent research funded by NSF contributes immensely to all of our growing understanding of this rapidly changing, evolving, some would call ‘new frontier.’ ”
Ambassador Gunter also welcomed U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski and NSF Director France Cordova to Iceland to highlight U.S. engagement in energy, education, economic and scientific collaboration in the Arctic.
